'Joker' depicts America that made Trump: Michael Moore

US director Michael Moore praises ‘Joker’ while making brief, thought-provoking reference to Trump.

US director Michael Moore pays a tribute to ‘Joker’, praising the title as “masterpiece” reflecting how America made Trump.

The filmmaker wrote an essay in media supporting Todd Phillips's offering, noting, "The story that Todd Phillips tells in Joker and the issues that this cinematic masterpiece raises are so profound, so necessary, that if you look away from the genius of this work of art, you will miss the gift of the mirror it is offering us."

Moore has won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for his 'Bowling for Columbine'.

In part of his essay on 'Joker', he referred to US president, saying, ”This movie is not about Trump," adding, “It’s about the America that gave us Trump – the America which feels no need to help the outcast, the destitute. The America where the filthy rich just get richer and filthier.”

'Joker' premiered at US theaters in October 2019.
